I know Shane well, so I know when he titled his post "The End of Social Media" -- http://www.closingbigger.net/2009/09/the-end-of-social-media/ -- he did it to raise eyebrows and angry clicks. The fact of the matter is that in a year or so we're not going to be saying "do you do social media?" any more than we ask "do you email?" now.
As I listened to Shane I was reminded that I said pretty much the same thing in 2006...we needed to stop thinking about "do you blog" in the same way we don't think "do you phone".
