Mac.AppStorm's back-to-college picks--let's suggest more free ones
I’m sure there are many other pieces of software that work brilliantly for school and college work. Please feel free to share in the comments, along with any free alternatives to the applications featured above.
I hope you enjoy the new academic year!
Mac.AppStorm has a great list of apps for the post-secondary school set. Most of the apps are commercial and I think there are a ton of valuable apps that are free that they missed.
First is Evernote, I'm wondering about something for organizing term papers. Something like Scrivener, but free.
What are your favourite FREE apps that students should have?
Blogging shouldn't need to cost $300!
If you're looking to promote your hobby, trying to educate customers, or simply want to entertain the masses, the Web is quickly becoming the medium of choice. These days, that means setting up a blog--preferably one that features video and podcasts as well as text. Starting a multimedia blog isn't hard. Mainly you need tools for creating and capturing content and the means for staying up-to-date in your area of expertise--technology, in my case.
When I accepted Macworld's challenge to build a complete blogger setup for less than $300 (you can check out the rules here ), I knew I'd have to make some tough decisions and a few compromises. Here's what I ended up with.
Maybe I'm out of line here, but I'm pretty darn sure you can put together a fine, fine blogging and podcasting set up for, well, nothing.
Maybe a challenge I need.
Blogo now compatible with Snow Leopard
This past Friday, Apple released Snow Leopard, a slimmed-down update to Mac OS 10.5 with a focus on performance, stability and improving the core of the operating system.
Today we’re releasing the first Snow Leopard compatible beta of Blogo, which fixes the startup crashes which our users have encountered when trying to use the app after upgrading.
You can download the beta here. Let us know of any problems on this thread at our Get Satisfaction! page. Undo/Redo was the main area of the application which was affected by the changes in Snow Leopard.
Whew! I thought I was going to have to live without this for a while! I should have known that the guys at Brainjuice would come through with an update to Blogo.
